Quick answer
Daily, wipe spills with a soft damp towel after each use and remove water spots with equal parts white vinegar and distilled water. For a deep clean, leave a baking soda paste on for five minutes, wipe it off, then spray hot white vinegar on remaining grease and scrub gently.
  • Soften stuck-on food with hot vinegar, then scrape with a putty knife
  • Buff to a shine with non-gel toothpaste and a lint-free cloth

With a sleek, modern, and clean-looking design, glass induction cooktops are widely popular, and certainly favour kitchen interiors aesthetically. They are also convenient to use and, for the most part, easy to clean.

Of course, cleaning does not always entail a simple wipe down of the surface; spills and grease buildup on your glass stovetop require careful and immediate cleaning to ensure that the heating elements and heat distribution are not hindered. Furthermore, the correct techniques, tools, and cleaners to be used when cleaning a glass induction cooktop are critically important as anything else will either damage the surface, or interfere with the performance of the appliance.

So, how do you clean a glass cooktop safely and effectively to make it glisten again? Well, pay close attention because MaidForYou is sharing the right ways to clean your glass stovetop daily or after every use, along with a thorough, step-by-step guide to tackle stubborn grease and stains as and when needed. Read on!

Daily Cleaning Tips for Glass Induction Cooktops

If you use your stove everyday, daily cleaning is highly recommended to prevent stains from setting in and discolouring the glass. Additionally, it saves you the trouble of having to clean up a bigger mess after a few days of use.

To keep your glass induction cooktop clean and functioning smoothly, follow the daily cleaning tips below.

Wipe the Glass Immediately

The sooner you wipe up spills, the longer your glass stovetop will remain clean. Moreover, some foods dry up quickly and cling to the surface, thus needing a slightly more complex cleaning approach. To avoid this, use a soft, damp towel to wipe down the glass surface after every use, or as and when spills occur. Be sure to use oven mitts while doing this as the burner area may still be too hot to touch with bare hands.

Remove Hard Water Stains

After a wipe down with a damp cloth or another water-based cleaning method, you may notice water spots or hard water stains which are caused by mineral deposits that are left on the surface after water evaporates. Along with being unsightly, they make it impossible to achieve those sparkling results you desire. Fortunately, hard water stains on glass are quick and easy to remove using just equal parts of white distilled vinegar and distilled water. Simply mix the ingredients in a bowl, dampen a clean microfibre cloth in the solution, and wipe the glass stovetop in circular motions until the stains disappear.

Soak & Scrape Off Stuck-On Foods

Food bits or spills that are stuck to your glass stovetop require a more aggressive approach, however, you needn’t resort to a deep cleaning method just yet (unless the rest of the cooktop requires a thorough clean). Instead, you can spot clean dried/stuck-on gunk from your glass induction cooktop by soaking the stains with wet paper towels dipped in hot, undiluted vinegar. Do this for a few minutes, and then gently scrape off the loosened food spills with a putty knife. Once you have succeeded in removing stuck-on debris, wipe over the spot with a damp, lint-free cloth.

Steps to Degrease a Glass Induction Cooktop

When grease takes over your glass stovetop, food spills and crumbs tend to cling to the surface more because of the adhesive layer created by the oily substance. This makes the cleanup that much tougher, not to mention a lot messier! For this reason, glass induction cooktops require regular deep cleaning to remove all traces of grime and grease buildup on the surface.

Bear in mind that any residue left on the glass will affect the overall performance of the stove in the long run which is why the use of certain cleaning agents and methods must be avoided. At Maid For You, we opt for a safe yet effective, all-natural and gentle approach to degreasing glass induction cooktops.

Follow the DIY guide below to remove stubborn grease and stains from your glass stovetop.

  1. Step One

Using a damp, microfibre cloth, wipe the surface thoroughly to remove loose debris and any oil/grease that comes off with minimal scrubbing. The more grease you get out at this stage, the easier the rest of the cleaning process will be.

  2. Step Two

For its mild abrasion and cleansing properties, baking soda is the perfect cleaning agent to safely degrease glass cooktops. Unlike gritty powdered cleaning products, baking soda is gentle, and will not scratch glass surfaces. To use the ingredient efficiently, sprinkle a generous amount over the stovetop, and spread it around so that the powder covers the glass evenly.

The baking soda needs to be made into a paste in order for it to be effective so at this time, you will need a spray bottle to spritz the surface with warm water. Leave the paste to sit on the glass for at least 5 minutes.

  3. Step Three

In this time, the baking soda paste will actively cut through the grease and loosen the adhesive on the glass; this is exactly what the baking soda is intended to do, rather than clean off the grease entirely. Before you move on to the next step or introduce the next cleaning agent to the surface, wipe off the baking soda with a damp cloth or non-abrasive scrubber/sponge.

  4. Step Four

Heat up some white distilled vinegar and pour it into a spray bottle. Use this to spray and soak greasy areas and stubborn stains that are still present on the glass cooktop after the baking soda paste has been wiped off. Allow the vinegar to soak on the surface for 1-2 minutes, then spot clean the areas with a damp, non-abrasive scrubber.

  5. Step Five

At this stage of the cleaning process, your glass induction cooktop will be cleaner and perhaps, grease-free; however, it will require one last step to complete the deep clean and reveal a spotless finish. For this, choose a non-toxic all-purpose cleaner, or simply make a DIY solution consisting of water and liquid dish soap in a spray bottle. Saturate the glass with your chosen cleaning solution, and scrub it one last time with a clean microfibre cloth. Check for missed spots during this step and be sure to clean them up with the damp cleaning tool.

  6. Step Six

For best results, we like to buff the glass cooktop to achieve a truly spotless and glistening finish. The easiest and most effective way to do this is with non-gel toothpaste and a soft, lint-free cloth. Simply apply speckles of toothpaste around the glass, and begin buffing the surface in circular motions. It might take a little time for the toothpaste to disappear, however, the results are guaranteed to leave you satisfied!

To keep your glass induction cooktop in tiptip, sparkling condition, use the daily cleaning tips and deep cleaning guide in combination. You should also keep in mind that everyday cleaning is the best and most effective way to maintain optimal functioning of your stove while keeping it free of grease buildup and stains for a longer period of time.

When to call a professional

Wiping the glass after every use keeps an induction cooktop easy to manage. Once grease has built up over weeks and is spread across the splashback and rangehood too, a deep clean of the whole kitchen saves you working through the degreasing steps surface by surface.
