The Perfectly Folded Fitted Sheet Does Exist! Here's How To Do It Yourself

Have you ever seen a fitted sheet neatly folded? Perhaps not; especially if you yourself resort to simply rolling it up into a ball and stuffing it into your linen closet! Well, you are definitely not alone if your struggles to fold a fitted sheet go in vain because it ends up looking like a lumpy mess.

Due to their awkward shape which is owed to the elastic edges around the sheet, fitted bedsheets are one of the trickiest types of bed linen to fold. That said, if you know a few simple tricks to get the job done neatly and efficiently, you’ll never have to worry about putting away a rolled up or lumpy folded fitted sheet again!

Today, MaidForYou is going to help you learn how to fold a fitted sheet professionally and, best of all, it takes a few seconds and zero frustration! Before we get into it, though, let’s talk about what these sheets are, and why they are great alternatives to regular bed sheets.

What is a Fitted Sheet?

As the name suggests, these bed sheets are made to fit mattresses without needing to be tucked in. This is achieved by a thin elastic band that is stitched into the hem of the sheet which allows you to easily and conveniently pull the sheet over the mattress. The elastic sits under the corners of the mattress and holds the sheet in place.

Whether you work in housekeeping as part of the hospitality industry, or would simply like an easier, and trouble-free method to make your bed, fitted sheets are a fantastic option because they stay taut over the mattress even when you are sleeping or rolling around on the bed. At the very least, you might have to straighten out the sheet with your hands to smoothen out some creases but, unlike a regular bed sheet, there is no need to go around the bed and pull or tuck in any loose ends.

So, now that you are aware of how awesome fitted bed sheets are, the only thing left to learn is how to fold them! Let’s get right into it then!

Steps to Fold a Fitted Sheet Like a Pro!

At first, this method might seem a bit complex to follow but trust us, once you get the hang of it, you’ll be folding your fitted sheets in seconds! We have broken down the method into detailed steps to help you grasp the technique more efficiently. Read on!

Step One: Hold the Sheet Up

Hold the sheet lengthways from opposite corners with the rest of the sheet hanging below. Ensure that the top of the sheet (the side that faces up when spread over the mattress) is facing you. Your hands should be inside the corners of the sheet with the elastic edge draped over your wrists/forearms.

Step Two: Place One Corner Into the Other

Lower your arms and bring your left hand towards your right hand; while your hands are touching through the corners of the sheet, use your left fingers to pinch the right corner. Once you have the right corner in your grasp, use your right hand to pull the right corner over the left corner. By doing so, the left corner will be tucked into the right corner and the two will be properly aligned.

Step Three: Tuck in the Other Corners

While corners 1 (left corner) and 2 (right corner) are aligned and draped over your left hand, slide down the edge of the sheet closest to your body and place your hand inside the third corner. Again, your hand should be holding the inside of the corner while the underside of the sheet corner is draped over your hand. Pull corner 3 up, and tuck it into the corners that your left hand is holding up (just like you did 1 and 2). Repeat the step to tuck in corner number 4; by now, all 4 corners will be aligned.

Step Four: Straighten Out the Edges

While your left hand holds up the 4 aligned corners, the edges of the sheet may be folded inward. Run your right hand down both the edges of the sheet and straighten them out.

Now, place the sheet on a flat surface with the tucked in corners facing up.

Step Five: Fold in Thirds (Lengthways)

While the fitted sheet rests on a flat surface, you will notice that the elastic edges form a sort of L-shape; maintain this shape by ensuring that the sheet (as a whole) forms a rectangle. From here, you can fold the sheet further in thirds; to do this, fold the longer side of the ‘L’ inward towards the middle and fold the other side over it.

Step Six: Fold Into a Neat Square

By now, you will have a neatly, albeit long, folded fitted sheet that can further be folded into a square. Similar to step 5, fold the sheet in thirds by bringing one end towards the middle while the other end will be folded over to form a neat square.

And just like that, you’ve got a perfectly folded fitted sheet! Give this method a few practice runs and we guarantee that you will be folding your fitted sheets like a pro in no time!
